1. Unpack the Gateway appliance and rack mount or otherwise secure the appliance
3. Connect the power to the Gateway appliance
4. Configure the network settings in Webmin
5. Configure the Gateway appliance system in Webmin
6. Set up the EcoStruxure IT Gateway software
1. Unpack the Gateway appliance and rack mount or otherwise secure the appliance
Do not connect the power cable to the Gateway appliance or power it on at this time. The Gateway appliance is configured to turn on automatically when power is provided to the appliance. Do not power the appliance on until you are instructed to do so and are ready to configure it.
Mounting the Gateway appliance varies based on the model. Follow the mounting instructions provided with your appliance.
2. Connect the network
The Gateway appliance has two network adapters marked 1 and 2. Depending on the model, these ethernet ports are labelled LAN1 and LAN2 or Gb1 and Gb2.
-
-
Connect the Gateway public network to the ethernet port labeled 1 (LAN1 or Gb1) to your internet accessible network. This is the link the Gateway uses to communicate to EcoStruxure.
-
Make sure your laptop is set to receive a DHCP address.
-
Connect the Gateway private network to the ethernet port labeled 2 (LAN2 or Gb2) to a laptop. By default, this network interface also hosts a DHCP server with a 192.168.0.0/20 network scheme (provides addresses from 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.15.254).

3. Connect the power to the Gateway appliance
Connect the power to the Gateway appliance only when you are ready to configure the appliance.
The Gateway appliance is configured to turn on automatically when power is provided to the appliance. If the appliance does not turn on automatically, you can turn it on manually. The power button on the NUC model is marked S/W.
Once you power on the appliance, do not interrupt the software initialization process. Wait for the Gateway appliance to fully initialize, usually about 5 - 10 minutes. DO NOT REBOOT THE APPLIANCE until you are sure the system is fully initialized. See how to check the status of the Gateway appliance in Webmin. |
4. Connect to Webmin
Webmin is used for initial system configuration for the Gateway appliance, such as network, DHCP scope, and OS updates. Access to Webmin is limited to the Gateway's private network (LAN2 or Gb2).
DO NOT allow both the Gateway and another server to provide DHCP services to the same private network. If the Gateway appliance is being deployed along with a DCE server or another server that provides DHCP services, you must choose whether Gateway or another server will provide DHCP services.
To connect to Webmin:
- Confirm that your laptop received a DHCP address. If the Gateway is providing DHCP services, its address is usually 192.168.0.2 since it is the first device connecting to the Gateway.
- Open a browser on your laptop.
- Go to https://192.168.0.1:10000 to connect to Webmin.
- Wait for the prompt and log in. Credentials for user/password are setup/setup. You must change the default password when you log in for the first time.
5. Configure the Gateway appliance system in Webmin
The System Configuration section in the left navigation bar contains most of the areas of interest for initial setup.
Network configuration contains tools for configuring network interfaces and viewing their status.
To view the current IP address of LAN1 or GB1 (public network) on the Gateway:
Select System Configuration > Network Configuration, and then Network Interfaces.
Click the Active Now tab to see the IP address information for both LAN connections.
The eth0 interface is bound to the port labelled 1 (LAN1 or Gb1), which is the Gateway public network. The eth1 interface is bound to the port labelled 2 (LAN2 or Gb2), which is the Gateway private network.
Note: You can change the DHCP addresses to static IP addresses if needed. See How to set a static IP address on the public network of the Gateway appliance (LAN1 or Gb1) and How to set a static IP address on the private network of the Gateway appliance (LAN2 or Gb2)
Note the public IP address of the Gateway appliance on eth0.
Close Webmin and disconnect the laptop from Port 2.
6. Log in to EcoStruxure IT Gateway
Open a browser and enter the public IP address of your Gateway appliance. https://yourGatewayIP/gateway.
Log in with the default credentials admin/admin.
Follow the prompts in the blue banner to set up the Gateway, discover devices, and register the Gateway with EcoStruxure IT.
