These instructions apply to EcoStruxure IT Gateway appliances running software version 1.10 and newer.

IMPORTANT A DHCP server is enabled on the Gateway appliance private network by default. DO NOT connect the Gateway ethernet port labeled LAN2 or Gb2 to your public network. DO NOT allow both the Gateway and another server to provide DHCP services to the same private network.

1. Unpack the Gateway appliance and rack mount or otherwise secure the appliance
The Gateway appliance is configured to turn on automatically when power is provided to the appliance. Do not power the appliance on until you are instructed to do so and are ready to configure it.

Mounting the Gateway appliance varies based on the model. Follow the mounting instructions provided with your appliance.

2. Connect the network

Before you begin, make sure your public and private networks use different IP address schemes.

Make sure your computer is set to receive a DHCP address.

The Gateway appliance has two network adapters marked 1 and 2. Depending on the model, these ethernet ports are labeled LAN1 and LAN2 or Gb1 and Gb2.

• • • Connect the Gateway public network ethernet port labeled 1 (LAN1 or Gb1) to your network. Internet access is required. The Gateway uses this public network to communicate with EcoStruxure.
      Do not connect LAN1/Gb1 at this time if your public network scheme is 192.168.x.x.

    • Connect your computer to the Gateway private network ethernet port labeled 2 (LAN2 or Gb2). You use this private network to configure and manage the server. Its default IP scheme is 192.168.0.0/20.

About DHCP

By default, the Gateway appliance private network interface hosts a DHCP server with a 192.168.0.0/20 network scheme (provides addresses from 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.15.254).

DO NOT allow both the Gateway and another server to provide DHCP services to the same private network. If the Gateway appliance is being deployed along with a DCE server or another server that provides DHCP services, you must choose whether Gateway or another server will provide DHCP services. 

 

3. Connect the power

1. Connect the power cable to the Gateway appliance. If the appliance does not turn on automatically, you can turn it on manually. 

2. Open a browser on your computer and go to https://192.168.0.1
   If you can’t connect, disconnect Wi-Fi on your computer. Try again.
   If you still can’t connect, keep Wi-Fi disconnected, and disconnect the cable from LAN1/Gb1. Reboot the appliance and your computer. Try again.

3. It will take a few minutes for the login page to display. Provide a password for the admin user and log in.

4. Verify the Gateway appliance server configuration

Check that the Gateway application has an IP address and the ethernet connection status is Up.

If there is a network overlap or the Gateway application is not reachable, click Troubleshooting to help resolve connection issues.

IMPORTANT: If you disconnected LAN1/Gb1, resolve any network conflicts before you reconnect it.

The public network IP address for the Gateway appliance is displayed at the top of the page.

Generally, no further configuration is needed unless you have specific network requirements. Consult your IT administrator for the correct settings if network changes are needed.

Click Configure and manage server to:

• View or modify settings for the public network including adding a root certificate and proxy server

• View and modify settings for the private network.
  Note: If you have DHCP enabled on the Gateway private network and you change the Gateway's private network IP address, it is required that you restart the DHCP server.

• Change the default NTP servers if necessary.
  Note: Changing the time zone requires a Gateway reboot. Changing the NTP server causes an immediate Gateway reboot.

Other advanced options are available from the appliance command line interface (CLI) on the private network. See Gateway appliance command line interface (CLI) - version 1.10 and newer

Most of the Appliance Settings options are available only when you are connected to the appliance's private network. When you are connected to the public network, you can still access:

• Proxy Server
• Root Certificate
• Reboot Gateway Appliance

Make sure your public and private network settings are correct before you discover devices. 

5. Discover devices and connect to EcoStruxure IT

1. Connect your computer to the same public network as the Gateway.

2. On the setup screen, click Launch Gateway application.

3. Disconnect your computer from the Gateway private network.

4. Connect the Gateway to your private network to monitor devices on that network.
   Click Yes to confirm your network connection and continue.

5. Log in with the credentials you created for the admin user.

6. Configure the Gateway software

Follow the prompts to configure the Gateway software, discover devices, and register the Gateway with EcoStruxure IT.
