EcoStruxure IT Advisor provides a way to manage which users can access IT Advisor from an external network, for example, from a home network.
To enable External User Access, there are two things you need to be aware of.
- Infrastructure setup
- How to manage user access
Infrastructure setup
External User Access works on the premise that users will access IT Advisor through different infrastructure components, like a proxy or load-balancer, depending on being on a local or remote network.
The proxy or load-balancer used when acccessing IT Advisor from external networks must append a header "ita-external-access" with value "yes" to all network traffic destined for the IT Advisor server.
If using ssl-encryption - the traffic must be terminated at the proxy/load-balancer level, to be able to append "ita-external-access"-header to incoming traffic.
How to manage user access
To manage which users are allowed to access IT Advisor from an external network, the user needs to have "Permit access from external network"-permission.
This can be done by navigating to web client > Administration > User > Selected User -> Global Permissions > Select... > Enable/Disable -> Permit access from external network.
